Zapdos 23/53 · Wizards Black Star Promos

Zapdos is Pokédex #145, generation 1 (Kanto). Zapdos is a Basic Lightning Pokémon with 70 HP. The card lists level 30.

Zapdos sits at 23/53 in Wizards Black Star Promos, position 23 of 53. Before it is 22 Articuno, and after it is 24 _____'s Pikachu. The set belongs to the Base series. It was released on July 1, 1999. The printed size is 53, and the checklist is the same length. The listed rarity is Promo.

The attack Lightning Burn lists 30 damage. The cost is Lightning, Lightning, Lightning. Flip a coin. If heads, and if your opponent has any Benched Pokémon, choose 1 of them. This attack does 30 damage to that Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.) If tails, Zapdos does 30 damage to itself. Resistance is Fighting -30. Retreat cost is 1. The flavor text reads "This legendary Pokémon is said to be present wherever there is a lightning storm."

Zapdos (#145) has 49 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 34 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Zapdos 16/102 in Base (1999). That card lists 90 HP, and this one lists 70 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Promo. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and Toshinao Aoki illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 3, and here it is 1. 47 other cards of Zapdos list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads Toshinao Aoki. I count 57 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Wizards Black Star Promos set binder is where a full Wizards Black Star Promos set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Zapdos can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). I still need this card.
