Neo Destiny is a set in the Neo series. It was released on February 28, 2002. The printed size is 105. This checklist is longer, at 113 cards. Dark Magcargo is 18/105, in position 18 of 113 on this checklist. Before it is 17 Dark Ariados, and after it is 19 Dark Omastar. The listed rarity is Rare.
Dark Magcargo is a Stage 1 Fire Pokémon with 60 HP. The card lists level 36. In the Pokédex this is Magcargo (#219), generation 2 (Johto). The card says it evolves from Slugma. In this catalog that name is Slugma (#218).
Toshinao Aoki illustrated this card. The same name is on 57 other cards in the catalog.
Magcargo (#219) has 29 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 20 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2001 to 2026. The earliest other card is Magcargo 33/64 in Neo Revelation (2001). That card is named Magcargo, while this one is Dark Magcargo. That card lists 80 HP, and this one lists 60 HP. The rarity there is Uncommon, and here it is Rare. Shin-ichi Yoshida illustrated that card, and Toshinao Aoki illustrated this one. 29 other cards of Magcargo list a different HP.
Hot Plate is listed as Pokémon Power. As long as Dark Magcargo is your Active Pokémon, whenever a player puts a Baby Pokémon or Basic Pokémon onto his or her Bench from his or her hand, this power does 10 damage to that Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance.) This power stops working if Dark Magcargo is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed. The attack Ball of Flame lists 20 damage. The cost is Fire, Fire. You may discard a Fire Energy card attached to Dark Magcargo when you use this attack. If you do and if your opponent has any Benched Pokémon, choose 1 of them and this attack does 20 damage to it. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.) Weakness is Water ×2. Retreat cost is 3. The flavor text reads "The shell on its back comes off easily, exposing the flames running through its body."
I keep a set binder for Neo Destiny, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Neo Destiny set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Magcargo can fill a slot in Generation 2 binder (Johto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Team Rocket cards. I still need this card.
