Misty's Gyarados 49/182 · Destined Rivals

Destined Rivals is a set in the Scarlet & Violet series. It was released on May 30, 2025. The printed size is 182. This checklist is longer, at 244 cards. Misty's Gyarados is 49/182, in position 49 of 244 on this checklist. Before it is 48 Misty's Magikarp, and after it is 50 Misty's Lapras. The listed rarity is Rare.

Misty's Gyarados is a Stage 1 Water Pokémon with 180 HP. In the Pokédex this is Gyarados (#130), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Misty's Magikarp. In this catalog that name is Magikarp (#129).

Gyarados (#130) has 56 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 38 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2023. The earliest other card is Gyarados 6/102 in Base (1999). That card is named Gyarados, while this one is Misty's Gyarados. That card lists 100 HP, and this one lists 180 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare. Retreat cost there is 3, and here it is 4. 50 other cards of Gyarados list a different HP.

The attack Splashing Panic lists 70× damage. The cost is Water. Discard the top 7 cards of your deck, and this attack does 70 damage for each Misty's Pokémon that you discarded in this way. Waterfall is another attack lists 120 damage. The cost is Water, Water, Colorless. Weakness is Lightning ×2. Retreat cost is 4. The regulation mark is I.

I keep a set binder for Destined Rivals, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Destined Rivals set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Gyarados can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Trainer's Pokémon, Magikarp and Gyarados, Kanto Gym Leaders and their Pokémon, Misty and her Pokémon, and Giant Pokémon. I still need this card.
