Mightyena 17/39 · Kalos Starter Set

Kalos Starter Set is a set in the XY series. It was released on November 8, 2013. The printed size is 39, and the checklist is the same length. Mightyena is 17/39, in position 17 of 39 on this checklist. Before it is 16 Poochyena, and after it is 18 Inkay.

Mightyena is a Stage 1 Darkness Pokémon with 90 HP. In the Pokédex this is Mightyena (#262), generation 3 (Hoenn). The card says it evolves from Poochyena. In this catalog that name is Poochyena (#261).

Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated this card. The same name is on 721 other cards in the catalog.

Mightyena (#262) has 23 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 17 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2003 to 2026. The earliest other card is Mightyena 10/109 in Ruby & Sapphire (2003). That card lists 70 HP, and this one lists 90 HP. Atsuko Nishida illustrated that card, and Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated this one. 20 other cards of Mightyena list a different HP.

The attack Hard Bite lists 40+ damage. The cost is Darkness, Colorless. Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 20 more damage. Weakness is Fighting ×2. Resistance is Psychic -20. Retreat cost is 1. The flavor text reads "It will always obey the commands of a skilled Trainer. Its behavior arises from its living in packs in ancient times."

I keep a set binder for Kalos Starter Set, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Kalos Starter Set set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Mightyena can fill a slot in Generation 3 binder (Hoenn). Themed lists that include this exact card are Mitsuhiro Arita cards. I still need this card.
