Gyarados 34/108 · Evolutions

Evolutions is a set in the XY series. It was released on November 2, 2016. The printed size is 108. This checklist is longer, at 113 cards. Gyarados is 34/108, in position 34 of 113 on this checklist. Before it is 33 Magikarp, and after it is 35 Pikachu. The listed rarity is Rare Holo.

Gyarados is a Stage 1 Water Pokémon with 130 HP. The card lists level 41. In the Pokédex this is Gyarados (#130), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Magikarp. In this catalog that name is Magikarp (#129).

Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated this card. The same name is on 721 other cards in the catalog.

Gyarados (#130) has 56 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 38 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2025. The earliest other card is Gyarados 6/102 in Base (1999). That card lists 100 HP, and this one lists 130 HP. Both list the rarity Rare Holo. 43 other cards of Gyarados list a different HP.

The attack Bubble Beam lists 50 damage. The cost is Water, Water, Water. Flip a coin. If heads, your opponent's Active Pokémon is now Paralyzed. Dragon Rage is another attack lists 180 damage. The cost is Water, Water, Water, Water. Flip 2 coins. If either of them is tails, this attack does nothing. Weakness is Lightning ×2. Retreat cost is 3. The flavor text reads "It has an extremely aggressive nature. The Hyper Beam it shoots from its mouth totally incinerates all targets."

I keep a set binder for Evolutions, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Evolutions set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Gyarados can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Mitsuhiro Arita cards and Magikarp and Gyarados. I still need this card.
