Poliwrath 13/102 · Base

Poliwrath is Pokédex #062, generation 1 (Kanto). Poliwrath is a Stage 2 Water Pokémon with 90 HP. The card lists level 48. The card says it evolves from Poliwhirl. In this catalog that name is Poliwhirl (#061).

Poliwrath sits at 13/102 in Base, position 13 of 102. Before it is 12 Ninetales, and after it is 14 Raichu. The set belongs to the Base series. It was released on 9 January 1999. The printed size is 102, and the checklist is the same length. The listed rarity is Rare Holo.

The attack Water Gun lists 30+ damage. The cost is Water, Water, Colorless. Does 30 damage plus 10 more damage for each Water Energy attached to Poliwrath but not used to pay for this attack's Energy cost. Extra Water Energy after the 2nd doesn't count. Whirlpool is another attack lists 40 damage. The cost is Water, Water, Colorless, Colorless. If the Defending Pokémon has any Energy cards attached to it, choose 1 of them and discard it. Weakness is Grass ×2. Retreat cost is 3. The flavor text reads "An adept swimmer at both the front crawl and breaststroke. Easily overtakes the best human swimmers."

Poliwrath (#062) has 19 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 16 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2000 to 2024. The earliest other card is Poliwrath 15/130 in Base Set 2 (2000). Both list 90 HP. Both list the rarity Rare Holo. 15 other cards of Poliwrath list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads Ken Sugimori. I count 1,112 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Base set binder is where a full Base set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Poliwrath can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). I still need this card.
