Nidoking 11/130 · Base Set 2

Base Set 2 is a set in the Base series. It was released on 24 February 2000. The printed size is 130, and the checklist is the same length. Nidoking is 11/130, in position 11 of 130 on this checklist. Before it is 10 Mewtwo, and after it is 12 Nidoqueen. The listed rarity is Rare Holo.

Nidoking is a Stage 2 Grass Pokémon with 90 HP. The card lists level 23. In the Pokédex this is Nidoking (#034), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Nidorino. In this catalog that name is Nidorino (#033).

Ken Sugimori illustrated this card. The same name is on 1,112 other cards in the catalog.

Nidoking (#034) has 21 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 15 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2025. The earliest other card is Nidoking 11/102 in Base (1999). Both list 90 HP. Both list the rarity Rare Holo. 19 other cards of Nidoking list a different HP.

The attack Thrash lists 30+ damage. The cost is Grass, Colorless, Colorless. Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 30 damage plus 10 more damage; if tails, this attack does 30 damage and Nidoking does 10 damage to itself. Toxic is another attack lists 20 damage. The cost is Grass, Grass, Grass. The Defending Pokémon is now Poisoned. It now takes 20 Poison damage instead of 10 after each player's turn (even if it was already Poisoned). Weakness is Psychic ×2. Retreat cost is 3. The flavor text reads "Uses its powerful tail in battle to smash, constrict, then break its prey's bones."

I keep a set binder for Base Set 2, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Base Set 2 set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Nidoking can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). I still need this card.
