Mew 9/53 · Wizards Black Star Promos

Mew is Pokédex #151, generation 1 (Kanto). Mew is a Basic Psychic Pokémon with 50 HP. The card lists level 51.

Mew sits at 9/53 in Wizards Black Star Promos, position 9 of 53. Before it is 8 Mew, and after it is 10 Meowth. The set belongs to the Base series. It was released on 1 July 1999. The printed size is 53, and the checklist is the same length. The listed rarity is Promo.

The attack Psywave lists 10× damage. The cost is Psychic. Does 10 damage times the number of Energy cards attached to the Defending Pokémon. Devolution Beam is another attack lists no damage number. The cost is Psychic, Psychic. Choose an evolved Pokémon (your own or your opponent's). Return the highest Stage Evolution card on that Pokémon to its player's hand. That Pokémon is no longer Asleep, Confused, Paralyzed, or Poisoned, or anything else that might be the result of an attack (just as if you had evolved it). Weakness is Psychic ×2. Retreat cost is 1. The flavor text reads "So rare that it is still said to be a mirage by many experts. Only a few people have seen it worldwide."

Mew (#151) has 60 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 35 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Mew 8/53 in Wizards Black Star Promos (1999). Both list 50 HP. Both list the rarity Promo. 54 other cards of Mew list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads Ken Sugimori. I count 1,112 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Wizards Black Star Promos set binder is where a full Wizards Black Star Promos set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Mew can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). I still need this card.
