Articuno-EX 132/135 · Plasma Storm

Plasma Storm is a set in the Black & White series. It was released on 6 February 2013. The printed size is 135. This checklist is longer, at 138 cards. Articuno-EX is 132/135, in position 132 of 138 on this checklist. Before it is 131 Victini-EX, and after it is 133 Cobalion-EX. The listed rarity is Rare Ultra.

Articuno-EX is a Basic EX Team Plasma Water Pokémon with 170 HP. In the Pokédex this is Articuno (#144), generation 1 (Kanto).

Toyste Beach illustrated this card. The same name is on 284 other cards in the catalog.

Articuno (#144) has 45 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 30 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Articuno 22/53 in Wizards Black Star Promos (1999). That card is named Articuno, while this one is Articuno-EX. That card lists 70 HP, and this one lists 170 HP. The rarity there is Promo, and here it is Rare Ultra. Toshinao Aoki illustrated that card, and Toyste Beach illustrated this one. 40 other cards of Articuno list a different HP.

The attack Blizzard lists 60 damage. The cost is Water, Colorless, Colorless. Does 10 damage to each of your opponent's Benched Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.) Frost Prison is another attack lists 80 damage. The cost is Water, Water, Colorless, Colorless. If this Pokémon has any Plasma Energy attached to it, the Defending Pokémon is now Paralyzed. Weakness is Metal ×2. Resistance is Fighting -20. Retreat cost is 1. The card text says: Pokémon-EX rule: When a Pokémon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

I keep a set binder for Plasma Storm, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Plasma Storm set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Articuno can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Legendary birds and Team Plasma. I still need this card.
