Torterra 17/130 · Diamond & Pearl

Diamond & Pearl is a set in the Diamond & Pearl series. It was released on 1 May 2007. The printed size is 130, and the checklist is the same length. Torterra is 17/130, in position 17 of 130 on this checklist. Before it is 16 Staraptor, and after it is 18 Azumarill. The listed rarity is Rare Holo.

Torterra is a Stage 2 Grass Pokémon with 140 HP. The card lists level 45. In the Pokédex this is Torterra (#389), generation 4 (Sinnoh). The card says it evolves from Grotle. In this catalog that name is Grotle (#388).

Masahiko Ishii illustrated this card. The same name is on 5 other cards in the catalog.

Torterra (#389) has 12 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 11 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2007 to 2024. The earliest other card is Torterra LV.X 122/130 in Diamond & Pearl (2007). That card is named Torterra LV.X, while this one is Torterra. That card lists 160 HP, and this one lists 140 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo LV.X, and here it is Rare Holo. Shizurow illustrated that card, and Masahiko Ishii illustrated this one. 8 other cards of Torterra list a different HP.

The attack Body Slam lists 30 damage. The cost is Colorless, Colorless, Colorless. Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is now Paralyzed. Leaf Storm is another attack lists 60 damage. The cost is Grass, Grass, Colorless, Colorless. Remove 2 damage counters from each of your Grass Pokémon. Weakness is Fire +30. Retreat cost is 4. The flavor text reads "Small Pokémon occasionally gather on its unmoving back to begin building their nests."

I keep a set binder for Diamond & Pearl, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Diamond & Pearl set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Torterra can fill a slot in Generation 4 binder (Sinnoh). Themed lists that include this exact card are Sinnoh starters. I still need this card.
