Blastoise 36/165 · Expedition Base Set

Expedition Base Set is a set in the E-Card series. It was released on 15 September 2002. The printed size is 165, and the checklist is the same length. Blastoise is 36/165, in position 36 of 165 on this checklist. Before it is 35 Arbok, and after it is 37 Blastoise. The listed rarity is Rare.

Blastoise is a Stage 2 Water Pokémon with 100 HP. In the Pokédex this is Blastoise (#009), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Wartortle. In this catalog that name is Wartortle (#008).

Hiromichi Sugiyama illustrated this card. The same name is on 32 other cards in the catalog.

Blastoise (#009) has 44 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 27 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2024. The earliest other card is Blastoise 2/102 in Base (1999). Both list 100 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and Hiromichi Sugiyama illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 3, and here it is 2. 39 other cards of Blastoise list a different HP.

The attack Bubble lists 20 damage. The cost is Water. Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is now Paralyzed. Double Cannon is another attack lists 40× damage. The cost is Colorless, Colorless, Colorless. Flip 2 coins. This attack does 40 damage times the number of heads. Weakness is Lightning ×2. Retreat cost is 2.

I keep a set binder for Expedition Base Set, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Expedition Base Set set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Blastoise can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). I still need this card.
