Charizard 40/165 · Expedition Base Set

Charizard is Pokédex #006, generation 1 (Kanto). Charizard is a Stage 2 Fire Pokémon with 120 HP. The card says it evolves from Charmeleon. In this catalog that name is Charmeleon (#005).

Charizard sits at 40/165 in Expedition Base Set, position 40 of 165. Before it is 39 Charizard, and after it is 41 Clefable. The set belongs to the E-Card series. It was released on 15 September 2002. The printed size is 165, and the checklist is the same length. The listed rarity is Rare.

Burning Energy is listed as Poké-Power. Once during your turn (before your attack), you may turn all basic Energy attached to all of your Pokémon into Fire Energy for the rest of the turn. This power can't be used if Charizard is affected by a Special Condition. The attack Scorching Whirlwind lists 120 damage. The cost is Fire, Fire, Fire, Fire. Flip 2 coins. If 1 of them is tails, discard 2 Energy cards attached to Charizard. If both are tails, discard all Energy cards attached to Charizard. Weakness is Water ×2. Retreat cost is 3.

Charizard (#006) has 106 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 51 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Charizard 4/102 in Base (1999). Both list 120 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare. Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated that card, and Hiromichi Sugiyama illustrated this one. 94 other cards of Charizard list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads Hiromichi Sugiyama. I count 32 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Expedition Base Set set binder is where a full Expedition Base Set set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Charizard can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are All Charizard cards. I still need this card.
