Gyarados ex 109/112 · FireRed & LeafGreen

FireRed & LeafGreen is a set in the EX series. It was released on 1 September 2004. The printed size is 112. This checklist is longer, at 116 cards. Gyarados ex is 109/112, in position 109 of 116 on this checklist. Before it is 108 Gengar ex, and after it is 110 Mr. Mime ex. The listed rarity is Rare Holo EX.

Gyarados ex is a Stage 1 ex Water Pokémon with 130 HP. In the Pokédex this is Gyarados (#130), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Magikarp. In this catalog that name is Magikarp (#129).

Hikaru Koike illustrated this card. The same name is on 46 other cards in the catalog.

Gyarados (#130) has 56 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 38 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2025. The earliest other card is Gyarados 6/102 in Base (1999). That card is named Gyarados, while this one is Gyarados ex. That card lists 100 HP, and this one lists 130 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare Holo EX. Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated that card, and Hikaru Koike illustrated this one. 43 other cards of Gyarados list a different HP.

The attack Twister lists 40 damage. The cost is Water, Colorless. Flip 2 coins. For each heads, choose 1 Energy attached to the Defending Pokémon, if any, and discard it. If both are tails, this attack does nothing. Dragon Rage is another attack lists 100 damage. The cost is Water, Water, Colorless, Colorless, Colorless. Weakness is Lightning ×2. Retreat cost is 3. The card text says: When Pokémon-ex has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

I keep a set binder for FireRed & LeafGreen, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the FireRed & LeafGreen set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Gyarados can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Magikarp and Gyarados. I still need this card.
