Giovanni's Machamp 6/132 · Gym Challenge

Gym Challenge is a set in the Gym series. It was released on 16 October 2000. The printed size is 132, and the checklist is the same length. Giovanni's Machamp is 6/132, in position 6 of 132 on this checklist. Before it is 5 Giovanni's Gyarados, and after it is 7 Giovanni's Nidoking. The listed rarity is Rare Holo.

Giovanni's Machamp is a Stage 2 Fighting Pokémon with 100 HP. The card lists level 50. In the Pokédex this is Machamp (#068), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Giovanni's Machoke. In this catalog that name is Machoke (#067).

Ken Sugimori illustrated this card. The same name is on 1,112 other cards in the catalog.

Machamp (#068) has 48 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 29 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2023. The earliest other card is Machamp 8/102 in Base (1999). That card is named Machamp, while this one is Giovanni's Machamp. Both list 100 HP. Both list the rarity Rare Holo. 44 other cards of Machamp list a different HP.

Fortitude is listed as Pokémon Power. If Giovanni's Machamp would be Knocked Out by an opponent's attack, flip a coin. If heads, Giovanni's Machamp is not Knocked Out and its remaining HP become 10 instead. This power can't be used if Giovanni's Machamp is already Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed. The attack Hurricane Punch lists 30× damage. The cost is Fighting, Fighting, Fighting, Colorless. Flip 4 coins. This attack does 30 damage times the number of heads. Weakness is Psychic ×2. Retreat cost is 3.

I keep a set binder for Gym Challenge, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Gym Challenge set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Machamp can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Trainer's Pokémon, Kanto Gym Leaders and their Pokémon, and Giovanni and his Pokémon. I still need this card.
