Gastrodon East Sea 21/111 · Rising Rivals

Rising Rivals is a set in the Platinum series. It was released on 16 May 2009. The printed size is 111. This checklist is longer, at 120 cards. Gastrodon East Sea is 21/111, in position 21 of 120 on this checklist. Before it is 20 Gallade E4, and after it is 22 Gastrodon West Sea. The listed rarity is Rare.

Gastrodon East Sea is a Stage 1 Water Pokémon with 90 HP. The card lists level 40. In the Pokédex this is Gastrodon (#423), generation 4 (Sinnoh). The card says it evolves from Shellos East Sea. In this catalog that name is Shellos (#422).

Ken Sugimori illustrated this card. The same name is on 1,112 other cards in the catalog.

Gastrodon (#423) has 7 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 6 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2007 to 2024. The earliest other card is Gastrodon East Sea 8/132 in Secret Wonders (2007). That card lists 100 HP, and this one lists 90 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare. Kazuyuki Kano illustrated that card, and Ken Sugimori illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 4, and here it is 1. 7 other cards of Gastrodon list a different HP.

Sticky Hold is listed as Poké-Body. If Gastrodon East Sea is switched or retreats to your Bench, move as many Energy cards attached to Gastrodon East Sea as you like to the new Active Pokémon. The attack Calling Wave lists no damage number. The cost is Colorless. Search your deck for up to 2 Gastrodon and put them onto your Bench as Basic Pokémon. Put 2 damage counters on each of them. Shuffle your deck afterward. Wave Splash is another attack lists 40 damage. The cost is Water, Colorless. Weakness is Grass +30. Resistance is Lightning -20. Retreat cost is 1.

I keep a set binder for Rising Rivals, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Rising Rivals set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Gastrodon can fill a slot in Generation 4 binder (Sinnoh). I still need this card.
