Butterfree VMAX 190/189 · Darkness Ablaze

Butterfree is Pokédex #012, generation 1 (Kanto). Butterfree VMAX is a VMAX Grass Pokémon with 300 HP. The card says it evolves from Butterfree V. In this catalog that name is Butterfree (#012).

Butterfree VMAX sits at 190/189 in Darkness Ablaze, position 190 of 201. Before it is 189 Rose, and after it is 191 Centiskorch VMAX. The set belongs to the Sword & Shield series. It was released on 14 August 2020. The printed size is 189. This checklist is longer, at 201 cards. The collector number is above the printed set size of 189. The listed rarity is Rare Rainbow.

The attack G-Max Toxbreeze lists 150 damage. The cost is Grass, Grass, Colorless. Your opponent's Active Pokémon is now Confused and Poisoned. Weakness is Fire ×2. The card text says: VMAX rule: When your Pokémon VMAX is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 3 Prize cards. The regulation mark is D.

Butterfree (#012) has 24 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 21 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2025. The earliest other card is Butterfree 33/64 in Jungle (1999). That card is named Butterfree, while this one is Butterfree VMAX. That card lists 70 HP, and this one lists 300 HP. The rarity there is Uncommon, and here it is Rare Rainbow. Kagemaru Himeno illustrated that card, and aky CG Works illustrated this one. 23 other cards of Butterfree list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads aky CG Works. I count 163 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Darkness Ablaze set binder is where a full Darkness Ablaze set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Butterfree can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are VMAX cards. I still need this card.
