Magcargo 21/146 · XY

XY is a set in the XY series. It was released on 5 February 2014. The printed size is 146, and the checklist is the same length. Magcargo is 21/146, in position 21 of 146 on this checklist. Before it is 20 Slugma, and after it is 22 Pansear. The listed rarity is Rare.

Magcargo is a Stage 1 Fire Pokémon with 110 HP. In the Pokédex this is Magcargo (#219), generation 2 (Johto). The card says it evolves from Slugma. In this catalog that name is Slugma (#218).

kawayoo illustrated this card. The same name is on 209 other cards in the catalog.

Magcargo (#219) has 29 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 20 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2001 to 2026. The earliest other card is Magcargo 33/64 in Neo Revelation (2001). That card lists 80 HP, and this one lists 110 HP. The rarity there is Uncommon, and here it is Rare. Shin-ichi Yoshida illustrated that card, and kawayoo illustrated this one. 28 other cards of Magcargo list a different HP.

The attack Magma Mantle lists 30+ damage. The cost is Fire, Colorless. You may discard the top card of your deck. If that card is a Fire Energy card, this attack does 50 more damage. Heat Blast is another attack lists 80 damage. The cost is Fire, Fire, Colorless. Weakness is Water ×2. Retreat cost is 3. The flavor text reads "Its brittle shell occasionally spouts intense flames that circulate throughout its body."

I keep a set binder for XY, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the XY set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Magcargo can fill a slot in Generation 2 binder (Johto). I still need this card.
