M Ampharos-EX 28/98 · Ancient Origins

Ampharos is Pokédex #181, generation 2 (Johto). M Ampharos-EX is a MEGA EX Lightning Pokémon with 220 HP. The card says it evolves from Ampharos-EX. In this catalog that name is Ampharos (#181).

M Ampharos-EX sits at 28/98 in Ancient Origins, position 28 of 101. Before it is 27 Ampharos-EX, and after it is 29 Rotom. The set belongs to the XY series. It was released on 12 August 2015. The printed size is 98. This checklist is longer, at 101 cards. The listed rarity is Rare Holo EX.

The attack Exavolt lists 120+ damage. The cost is Lightning, Lightning, Colorless, Colorless. You may do 50 more damage and leave your opponent's Active Pokémon Paralyzed. If you do, this Pokémon does 30 damage to itself. Weakness is Fighting ×2. Resistance is Metal -20. Retreat cost is 3. The card text says: Mega Evolution rule: When 1 of your Pokémon becomes a Mega Evolution Pokémon, your turn ends. The card text says: Pokémon-EX rule: When a Pokémon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Ampharos (#181) has 37 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 27 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2000 to 2026. The earliest other card is Ampharos 1/111 in Neo Genesis (2000). That card is named Ampharos, while this one is M Ampharos-EX. That card lists 80 HP, and this one lists 220 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare Holo EX. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and 5ban Graphics illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 2, and here it is 3. 36 other cards of Ampharos list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads 5ban Graphics. I count 1,629 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Ancient Origins set binder is where a full Ancient Origins set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Ampharos can fill a slot in Generation 2 binder (Johto). I still need this card.
