Magikarp XY143/211 · XY Black Star Promos

Magikarp is Pokédex #129, generation 1 (Kanto). Magikarp is a Basic Water Pokémon with 30 HP. The card lists Gyarados, Gyarados (#130) under evolves to.

Magikarp sits at XY143/211 in XY Black Star Promos, position 144 of 216. Before it is XY142 Azelf, and after it is XY144 Yanmega. The set belongs to the XY series. It was released on 12 October 2013. The printed size is 211. This checklist is longer, at 216 cards. The listed rarity is Promo.

The attack Epic Splash lists 30 damage. The cost is Water. Flip 2 coins. If either of them is tails, this attack does nothing. Weakness is Lightning ×2. Retreat cost is 1. The flavor text reads "In the distant past, it was somewhat stronger than the horribly weak descendants that exist today."

Magikarp (#129) has 44 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 39 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Magikarp 35/102 in Base (1999). Both list 30 HP. The rarity there is Uncommon, and here it is Promo. Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated that card, and Saya Tsuruta illustrated this one. 4 other cards of Magikarp list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads Saya Tsuruta. I count 123 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

XY Black Star Promos set binder is where a full XY Black Star Promos set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Magikarp can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Magikarp and Gyarados and Saya Tsuruta cards. I still need this card.
