Dragonite 5/53 · Wizards Black Star Promos

Dragonite is Pokédex #149, generation 1 (Kanto). Dragonite is a Stage 2 Colorless Pokémon with 90 HP. The card lists level 43. The card says it evolves from Dragonair. In this catalog that name is Dragonair (#148).

Dragonite sits at 5/53 in Wizards Black Star Promos, position 5 of 53. Before it is 4 Pikachu, and after it is 6 Arcanine. The set belongs to the Base series. It was released on July 1, 1999. The printed size is 53, and the checklist is the same length. The listed rarity is Promo.

Special Delivery is listed as Pokémon Power. Once during your turn (before your attack), you may draw a card. If you do, choose a card from your hand and put it on top of your deck. This power can't be used if Dragonite is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed. The attack Supersonic Flight lists 60 damage. The cost is Colorless, Colorless, Colorless. Flip a coin. If tails, this attack does nothing. Resistance is Fighting -30. Retreat cost is 2. The flavor text reads "This Pokémon can fly is spite of its large bulk. It is said to be able to circumnavigate the earth in just 16 hours."

Dragonite (#149) has 48 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 29 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Dragonite 4/62 in Fossil (1999). That card lists 100 HP, and this one lists 90 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Promo. Kagemaru Himeno illustrated that card, and Toshinao Aoki illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 1, and here it is 2. 48 other cards of Dragonite list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads Toshinao Aoki. I count 57 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Wizards Black Star Promos set binder is where a full Wizards Black Star Promos set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Dragonite can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). I still need this card.
