Rapidash 51/53 · Wizards Black Star Promos

Wizards Black Star Promos is a set in the Base series. It was released on July 1, 1999. The printed size is 53, and the checklist is the same length. Rapidash is 51/53, in position 51 of 53 on this checklist. Before it is 50 Celebi, and after it is 52 Ho-oh. The listed rarity is Promo.

Rapidash is a Stage 1 Fire Pokémon with 60 HP. In the Pokédex this is Rapidash (#078), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Ponyta. In this catalog that name is Ponyta (#077).

Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated this card. The same name is on 721 other cards in the catalog.

Rapidash (#078) has 33 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 28 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2025. The earliest other card is Rapidash 44/64 in Jungle (1999). That card lists 70 HP, and this one lists 60 HP. The rarity there is Uncommon, and here it is Promo. 32 other cards of Rapidash list a different HP.

The attack Jump Over lists no damage number. The cost is Colorless, Colorless. If your opponent has any Benched Pokémon, choose 1 of them. Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 20 damage to that Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.) Super Singe is another attack lists 30 damage. The cost is Fire, Colorless, Colorless. Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is now Burned. Weakness is Water ×2.

I keep a set binder for Wizards Black Star Promos, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Wizards Black Star Promos set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Rapidash can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Mitsuhiro Arita cards. I still need this card.
