Rocket's Zapdos ex 106/109 · Team Rocket Returns

Team Rocket Returns is a set in the EX series. It was released on November 1, 2004. The printed size is 109. This checklist is longer, at 111 cards. Rocket's Zapdos ex is 106/109, in position 106 of 111 on this checklist. Before it is 105 Rocket's Suicune ex, and after it is 107 Mudkip ★. The listed rarity is Rare Holo EX.

Rocket's Zapdos ex is a Basic ex Darkness Pokémon with 100 HP. In the Pokédex this is Zapdos (#145), generation 1 (Kanto).

Ryo Ueda illustrated this card. The same name is on 462 other cards in the catalog.

Zapdos (#145) has 49 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 34 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Zapdos 16/102 in Base (1999). That card is named Zapdos, while this one is Rocket's Zapdos ex. That card lists 90 HP, and this one lists 100 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare Holo EX. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and Ryo Ueda illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 3, and here it is 1. 45 other cards of Zapdos list a different HP.

Darkness Guard is listed as Poké-Body. As long as Rocket's Zapdos ex has any Darkness Energy attached to it, damage done to Rocket's Zapdos ex by an opponent's attack is reduced by 10 (after applying Weakness and Resistance). The attack Plasma lists 10 damage. The cost is Colorless. Search your discard pile for a Lightning Energy card and attach it to Rocket's Zapdos ex. Raging Thunder is another attack lists 60 damage. The cost is Lightning, Lightning, Colorless. This attack does 30 damage to 1 of your Pokémon. Weakness is Lightning ×2. Retreat cost is 1. The card text says: When Pokémon-ex has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

I keep a set binder for Team Rocket Returns, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Team Rocket Returns set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Zapdos can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Trainer's Pokémon, Team Rocket cards, and Legendary birds. I still need this card.
