Dark Houndoom 37/109 · Team Rocket Returns

Houndoom is Pokédex #229, generation 2 (Johto). Dark Houndoom is a Stage 1 Fire Darkness Pokémon with 70 HP. The card says it evolves from Houndour. In this catalog that name is Houndour (#228).

Dark Houndoom sits at 37/109 in Team Rocket Returns, position 37 of 111. Before it is 36 Dark Gyarados, and after it is 38 Dark Magcargo. The set belongs to the EX series. It was released on November 1, 2004. The printed size is 109. This checklist is longer, at 111 cards. The listed rarity is Uncommon.

Fire Breath is listed as Poké-Power. Once during your turn (before your attack), if Dark Houndoom is your Active Pokémon, you may flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokémon (choose 1 if there are 2) is now Burned. This power can't be used if Dark Houndoom is affected by a Special Condition. The attack Fire Payback lists 40+ damage. The cost is Fire, Colorless, Colorless. If you have less Benched Pokémon than your opponent, this attack does 40 damage plus 20 more damage. Weakness is Water ×2. Retreat cost is 1. The card text says: This Pokémon is both Fire Darkness type.

Houndoom (#229) has 44 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 30 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2001 to 2025. The earliest other card is Houndoom 4/75 in Neo Discovery (2001). That card is named Houndoom, while this one is Dark Houndoom. Both list 70 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Uncommon. Shin-ichi Yoshida illustrated that card, and Nakaoka illustrated this one. 32 other cards of Houndoom list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads Nakaoka. I count 46 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Team Rocket Returns set binder is where a full Team Rocket Returns set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Houndoom can fill a slot in Generation 2 binder (Johto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Team Rocket cards. I still need this card.
