Mega Gengar ex 269/217 · Ascended Heroes

Gengar is Pokédex #094, generation 1 (Kanto). Mega Gengar ex is a Stage 2 MEGA ex Darkness Pokémon with 350 HP. The card says it evolves from Haunter. In this catalog that name is Haunter (#093).

Mega Gengar ex sits at 269/217 in Ascended Heroes, position 269 of 295. Before it is 268 Mega Hawlucha ex, and after it is 270 Mega Scrafty ex. The set belongs to the Mega Evolution series. It was released on January 30, 2026. The printed size is 217. This checklist is longer, at 295 cards. The collector number is above the printed set size of 217. The listed rarity is MEGA_ATTACK_RARE.

Shadowy Concealment is listed as Ability. If 1 of your Darkness Pokémon is Knocked Out by damage from an attack from your opponent's Pokémon ex, that player takes 1 fewer Prize card. The effect of Shadowy Concealment doesn't stack. The attack Void Gale lists 230 damage. The cost is Darkness, Darkness. Move an Energy from this Pokémon to 1 of your Benched Pokémon. Weakness is Fighting ×2. Retreat cost is 2. The card text says: Pokémon ex rule: When your Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards. The card text says: Mega Evolution ex Rule: When your Mega Evolution Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 3 Prize cards. The regulation mark is I.

Gengar (#094) has 52 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 35 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Gengar 5/62 in Fossil (1999). That card is named Gengar, while this one is Mega Gengar ex. That card lists 80 HP, and this one lists 350 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is MEGA_ATTACK_RARE. Keiji Kinebuchi illustrated that card, and Taiga Kasai illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 1, and here it is 2. 49 other cards of Gengar list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads Taiga Kasai. I count 16 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Ascended Heroes set binder is where a full Ascended Heroes set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Gengar can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Gengar and the Gastly line and Mega Evolution cards. I still need this card.
