Alolan Ninetales 28/147 · Burning Shadows

Burning Shadows is a set in the Sun & Moon series. It was released on August 5, 2017. The printed size is 147. This checklist is longer, at 177 cards. Alolan Ninetales is 28/147, in position 29 of 177 on this checklist. Before it is 27 Alolan Vulpix, and after it is 29 Horsea. The listed rarity is Rare.

Alolan Ninetales is a Stage 1 Water Pokémon with 110 HP. In the Pokédex this is Ninetales (#038), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Alolan Vulpix. In this catalog that name is Vulpix (#037).

Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated this card. The same name is on 721 other cards in the catalog.

Ninetales (#038) has 55 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 40 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Ninetales 12/102 in Base (1999). That card is named Ninetales, while this one is Alolan Ninetales. That card lists 80 HP, and this one lists 110 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and Mitsuhiro Arita illustrated this one. 49 other cards of Ninetales list a different HP.

Luminous Barrier is listed as Ability. Prevent all effects of attacks, including damage, done to this Pokémon by your opponent's Pokémon-GX or Pokémon-EX. The attack Aurora Beam lists 80 damage. The cost is Water, Colorless, Colorless. Weakness is Metal ×2. Retreat cost is 1. The flavor text reads "It creates drops of ice in its coat and showers them over its enemies. Anyone who angers it will be frozen stiff in an instant."

I keep a set binder for Burning Shadows, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Burning Shadows set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Ninetales can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Mitsuhiro Arita cards, Alolan forms, and Vulpix and Ninetales. I still need this card.
