Alolan Raichu SM72/248 · SM Black Star Promos
SM Black Star Promos is a set in the Sun & Moon series. It was released on February 3, 2017. The printed size is 248. This checklist is longer, at 251 cards. Alolan Raichu is SM72/248, in position 73 of 251 on this checklist. Before it is SM71 Kommo-o-GX, and after it is SM73 Salazzle. The listed rarity is Promo.
Alolan Raichu is a Stage 1 Lightning Pokémon with 110 HP. In the Pokédex this is Raichu (#026), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Pikachu. In this catalog that name is Pikachu (#025).
Akira Komayama illustrated this card. The same name is on 239 other cards in the catalog.
Raichu (#026) has 70 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 52 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Raichu 14/102 in Base (1999). That card is named Raichu, while this one is Alolan Raichu. That card lists 80 HP, and this one lists 110 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Promo. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and Akira Komayama illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 1, and here it is 2. 65 other cards of Raichu list a different HP.
Surge Surfer is listed as Ability. If there is any Stadium card in play, this Pokémon has no Retreat Cost. The attack Psychic lists 70+ damage. The cost is Colorless, Colorless, Colorless. This attack does 20 more damage times the amount of Energy attached to your opponent's Active Pokémon. Weakness is Fighting ×2. Resistance is Metal -20. Retreat cost is 2. The flavor text reads "It only evolves to this form in the Alola region. According to researchers, its diet is one of the causes of this change."
I keep a set binder for SM Black Star Promos, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the SM Black Star Promos set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Raichu can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Pikachu's friends and Alolan forms. I still need this card.
