Arcanine ex 224/198 · Scarlet & Violet

Arcanine is Pokédex #059, generation 1 (Kanto). Arcanine ex is a Stage 1 Tera ex Fire Pokémon with 280 HP. The card says it evolves from Growlithe. In this catalog that name is Growlithe (#058).

Arcanine ex sits at 224/198 in Scarlet & Violet, position 224 of 258. Before it is 223 Spidops ex, and after it is 225 Gyarados ex. The set belongs to the Scarlet & Violet series. It was released on March 31, 2023. The printed size is 198. This checklist is longer, at 258 cards. The collector number is above the printed set size of 198. The listed rarity is Ultra Rare.

The attack Raging Claws lists 30+ damage. The cost is Fire, Fire. This attack does 10 more damage for each damage counter on this Pokémon. Bright Flame is another attack lists 250 damage. The cost is Fire, Fire, Fire. Discard 2 Fire Energy from this Pokémon. Weakness is Water ×2. Retreat cost is 3. The card text says: Tera: As long as this Pokémon is on your Bench, prevent all damage done to this Pokémon by attacks (both yours and your opponent's). The card text says: Pokémon ex rule: When your Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards. The regulation mark is G.

Arcanine (#059) has 41 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 35 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2025. The earliest other card is Arcanine 23/102 in Base (1999). That card is named Arcanine, while this one is Arcanine ex. That card lists 100 HP, and this one lists 280 HP. The rarity there is Uncommon, and here it is Ultra Rare. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and 5ban Graphics illustrated this one. 40 other cards of Arcanine list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads 5ban Graphics. I count 1,629 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Scarlet & Violet set binder is where a full Scarlet & Violet set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Arcanine can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Tera Pokémon and Dog Pokémon. I still need this card.
