Raikou 55/162 · BREAKthrough

BREAKthrough is a set in the XY series. It was released on November 4, 2015. The printed size is 162. This checklist is longer, at 165 cards. Raikou is 55/162, in position 55 of 165 on this checklist. Before it is 54 Magnezone, and after it is 56 Stunfisk. The listed rarity is Rare Holo.

Raikou is a Basic Lightning Pokémon with 120 HP. In the Pokédex this is Raikou (#243), generation 2 (Johto).

Shin Nagasawa illustrated this card. The same name is on 303 other cards in the catalog.

Raikou (#243) has 26 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 19 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2001 to 2026. The earliest other card is Raikou 13/64 in Neo Revelation (2001). That card lists 80 HP, and this one lists 120 HP. Both list the rarity Rare Holo. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and Shin Nagasawa illustrated this one. 22 other cards of Raikou list a different HP.

Shining Body is listed as Ability. If this Pokémon has any Lightning Energy attached to it, any damage done to this Pokémon by attacks is reduced by 20 (after applying Weakness and Resistance). The attack Thunder Lance lists 50+ damage. The cost is Colorless, Colorless, Colorless. This attack does 20 more damage for each Lightning Energy attached to this Pokémon. Weakness is Fighting ×2. Resistance is Metal -20. Retreat cost is 1. The flavor text reads "This rough Pokémon stores energy inside its body, then sweeps across the land, shooting off electricity."

I keep a set binder for BREAKthrough, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the BREAKthrough set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Raikou can fill a slot in Generation 2 binder (Johto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Legendary beasts. I still need this card.
