Suicune 53/53 · Wizards Black Star Promos

Wizards Black Star Promos is a set in the Base series. It was released on 1 July 1999. The printed size is 53, and the checklist is the same length. Suicune is 53/53, in position 53 of 53 on this checklist. The card before it is 52 Ho-oh. The listed rarity is Promo.

Suicune is a Basic Water Pokémon with 70 HP. In the Pokédex this is Suicune (#245), generation 2 (Johto).

Atsuko Nishida illustrated this card. The same name is on 408 other cards in the catalog.

Suicune (#245) has 30 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 21 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2001 to 2025. The earliest other card is Suicune 14/64 in Neo Revelation (2001). Both list 70 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Promo. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and Atsuko Nishida illustrated this one. 24 other cards of Suicune list a different HP.

Pure Body is listed as Poké-Body. To attach a Water Energy card from your hand to Suicune, you must discard an Energy card attached to Suicune. (Attach the Water Energy, and then discard an Energy card from Suicune.) The attack Hypno Wave lists 30+ damage. The cost is Water, Colorless, Colorless. Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 30 damage plus 20 more damage. If tails, this attack does 30 damage and the Defending Pokémon is now Asleep. Weakness is Lightning ×2. Retreat cost is 1.

I keep a set binder for Wizards Black Star Promos, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Wizards Black Star Promos set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Suicune can fill a slot in Generation 2 binder (Johto). I still need this card.
