Blastoise 14/100 · Crystal Guardians

Crystal Guardians is a set in the EX series. It was released on 1 August 2006. The printed size is 100, and the checklist is the same length. Blastoise is 14/100, in position 14 of 100 on this checklist. Before it is 13 Wigglytuff, and after it is 15 Cacturne δ. The listed rarity is Rare.

Blastoise is a Stage 2 Water Pokémon with 120 HP. In the Pokédex this is Blastoise (#009), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Wartortle. In this catalog that name is Wartortle (#008).

Kouki Saitou illustrated this card. The same name is on 652 other cards in the catalog.

Blastoise (#009) has 44 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 27 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2024. The earliest other card is Blastoise 2/102 in Base (1999). That card lists 100 HP, and this one lists 120 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and Kouki Saitou illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 3, and here it is 2. 42 other cards of Blastoise list a different HP.

Water Pressure is listed as Poké-Body. As long as Blastoise's remaining HP is 40 or less, Blastoise does 40 more damage to the Defending Pokémon (before applying Weakness and Resistance). The attack Hydro Pump lists 50+ damage. The cost is Water, Colorless, Colorless. Does 50 damage plus 20 more damage for each Water Energy attached to Blastoise but not used to pay for this attack's Energy cost. You can't add more than 40 damage in this way. Weakness is Lightning ×2. Retreat cost is 2.

I keep a set binder for Crystal Guardians, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Crystal Guardians set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Blastoise can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). I still need this card.
