Butterfree 16/123 · HeartGold & SoulSilver

HeartGold & SoulSilver is a set in the HeartGold & SoulSilver series. It was released on 10 February 2010. The printed size is 123. This checklist is longer, at 124 cards. Butterfree is a Stage 2 Grass Pokémon with 120 HP. In the Pokédex this is Butterfree (#012), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Metapod. In this catalog that name is Metapod (#011).

Tomokazu Komiya illustrated this card. The same name is on 248 other cards in the catalog.

Butterfree (#012) has 24 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 20 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2025. The earliest other card is Butterfree 33/64 in Jungle (1999). That card lists 70 HP, and this one lists 120 HP. The rarity there is Uncommon, and here it is Rare. Kagemaru Himeno illustrated that card, and Tomokazu Komiya illustrated this one. 20 other cards of Butterfree list a different HP.

The attack Cure Powder lists no damage number. The cost is Grass. Remove 3 damage counters from each of your Pokémon. Whirlwind is another attack lists 60 damage. The cost is Grass, Colorless, Colorless. Your opponent switches the Defending Pokémon with 1 of his or her Benched Pokémon. Weakness is Lightning ×2. Resistance is Fighting -20. The flavor text reads "Water-repellent powder on its wings enables it to collect honey, even in the heaviest of rains."

I keep a set binder for HeartGold & SoulSilver, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the HeartGold & SoulSilver set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Butterfree can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Tomokazu Komiya cards and Berries and fruit. I still need this card.
