Ursaring 34/75 · Neo Discovery

Neo Discovery is a set in the Neo series. It was released on 1 June 2001. The printed size is 75, and the checklist is the same length. Ursaring is 34/75, in position 34 of 75 on this checklist. Before it is 33 Unown [A], and after it is 35 Wobbuffet. The listed rarity is Rare.

Ursaring is a Stage 1 Colorless Pokémon with 80 HP. The card lists level 42. In the Pokédex this is Ursaring (#217), generation 2 (Johto). The card says it evolves from Teddiursa. In this catalog that name is Teddiursa (#216).

Naoyo Kimura illustrated this card. The same name is on 256 other cards in the catalog.

Ursaring (#217) has 15 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 14 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2001 to 2022. The earliest other card is Ursaring 15/75 in Neo Discovery (2001). Both list 80 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare. 12 other cards of Ursaring list a different HP.

The attack Headpress lists 20 damage. The cost is Colorless, Colorless. Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is now Paralyzed. If tails, this attack does nothing (not even damage). Double Lariat is another attack lists 40× damage. The cost is Colorless, Colorless, Colorless, Colorless. Flip 2 coins. This attack does 40 damage times the number of heads. Weakness is Fighting ×2. Resistance is Psychic -30. Retreat cost is 3. The flavor text reads "Although it is a good climber, it prefers to snap trees with its forelegs and eat fallen berries."

I keep a set binder for Neo Discovery, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Neo Discovery set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Ursaring can fill a slot in Generation 2 binder (Johto). I still need this card.
