Lapras 12/18 · Southern Islands

Lapras is Pokédex #131, generation 1 (Kanto). Lapras is a Basic Water Pokémon with 70 HP.

Lapras sits at 12/18 in Southern Islands, position 12 of 18. Before it is 11 Marill, and after it is 13 Exeggutor. The set belongs to the Other series. It was released on 31 July 2001. The printed size is 18, and the checklist is the same length.

The attack Gentle Song lists no damage number. The cost is Colorless. If Lapras has any damage counters on it, remove 2 of them from it (1 if it only has 1). If the Defending Pokémon has any damage counters on it, remove 2 of them from it (1 if it only has 1). The Defending Pokémon is now Asleep. Ice Beam is another attack lists 20 damage. The cost is Water, Water. Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is now Paralyzed. Weakness is Lightning ×2. Retreat cost is 1. The flavor text reads "This gentle Pokémon can understand human language and allows people to ride on its back."

Lapras (#131) has 49 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 36 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Lapras 10/62 in Fossil (1999). That card lists 80 HP, and this one lists 70 HP. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and Naoyo Kimura illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 2, and here it is 1. 49 other cards of Lapras list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads Naoyo Kimura. I count 256 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Southern Islands set binder is where a full Southern Islands set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Lapras can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). I still need this card.
