Alolan Sandslash 29/156 · Ultra Prism

Sandslash is Pokédex #028, generation 1 (Kanto). Alolan Sandslash is a Stage 1 Water Pokémon with 120 HP. The card says it evolves from Alolan Sandshrew. In this catalog that name is Sandshrew (#027).

Alolan Sandslash sits at 29/156 in Ultra Prism, position 29 of 178. Before it is 28 Alolan Sandshrew, and after it is 30 Alolan Vulpix. The set belongs to the Sun & Moon series. It was released on 2 February 2018. The printed size is 156. This checklist is longer, at 178 cards. The listed rarity is Rare.

The attack Spike Armor lists 30 damage. During your opponent's next turn, if this Pokémon is damaged by an attack (even if this Pokémon is Knocked Out), put 6 damage counters on the Attacking Pokémon. Frost Breath is another attack lists 90 damage. The cost is Water, Colorless, Colorless. Weakness is Metal ×2. Retreat cost is 1. The flavor text reads "This Pokémon's steel spikes are sheathed in ice. Stabs from these spikes cause deep wounds and severe frostbite as well."

Sandslash (#028) has 23 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 21 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2025. The earliest other card is Sandslash 41/62 in Fossil (1999). That card is named Sandslash, while this one is Alolan Sandslash. That card lists 70 HP, and this one lists 120 HP. The rarity there is Uncommon, and here it is Rare. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and Anesaki Dynamic illustrated this one. 17 other cards of Sandslash list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads Anesaki Dynamic. I count 134 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

Ultra Prism set binder is where a full Ultra Prism set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Sandslash can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Alolan forms. I still need this card.
