Altaria 12/106 · Great Encounters

Great Encounters is a set in the Diamond & Pearl series. It was released on February 1, 2008. The printed size is 106, and the checklist is the same length. Altaria is 12/106, in position 12 of 106 on this checklist. Before it is 11 Togekiss, and after it is 13 Beedrill. The listed rarity is Rare.

Altaria is a Stage 1 Colorless Pokémon with 80 HP. The card lists level 42. In the Pokédex this is Altaria (#334), generation 3 (Hoenn). The card says it evolves from Swablu. In this catalog that name is Swablu (#333).

Kagemaru Himeno illustrated this card. The same name is on 656 other cards in the catalog.

Altaria (#334) has 38 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 27 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2003 to 2024. The earliest other card is Altaria 2/97 in Dragon (2003). Both list 80 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare. Atsuko Nishida illustrated that card, and Kagemaru Himeno illustrated this one. 30 other cards of Altaria list a different HP.

The attack Dragonbreath lists 40 damage. The cost is Colorless. Flip a coin. If tails, this attack does nothing. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is now Paralyzed. Cotton Cloud is another attack lists 60 damage. The cost is Colorless, Colorless, Colorless. During your opponent's next turn, any damage done to Altaria by attacks from your opponent's Evolved Pokémon is reduced by 30 (after applying Weakness and Resistance). Weakness is Colorless +20. Resistance is Fighting -20. Retreat cost is 1. The flavor text reads "It looks like a fluffy cloud when it is in flight. It hums with its soprano voice."

I keep a set binder for Great Encounters, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Great Encounters set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Altaria can fill a slot in Generation 3 binder (Hoenn). I still need this card.
