Groudon ex 38/40 · Nintendo Black Star Promos

Nintendo Black Star Promos is a set in the NP series. It was released on October 1, 2003. The printed size is 40, and the checklist is the same length. Groudon ex is 38/40, in position 38 of 40 on this checklist. Before it is 37 Kyogre ex, and after it is 39 Rayquaza ex. The listed rarity is Promo.

Groudon ex is a Basic EX Fighting Pokémon with 100 HP. In the Pokédex this is Groudon (#383), generation 3 (Hoenn).

Ryo Ueda illustrated this card. The same name is on 462 other cards in the catalog.

Groudon (#383) has 33 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 22 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2003 to 2026. The earliest other card is Groudon ex 2/40 in Nintendo Black Star Promos (2003). That card lists 120 HP, and this one lists 100 HP. Both list the rarity Promo. Kazuo Yazawa illustrated that card, and Ryo Ueda illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 3, and here it is 2. 26 other cards of Groudon list a different HP.

Frenzy is listed as Poké-Body. As long as your opponent has Kyogre, Kyogre ex, Rayquaza, or Rayquaza ex in play, Groudon ex's attacks do 40 more damage to the Defending Pokémon (before applying Weakness and Resistance). The attack Mix-Up lists 30 damage. The cost is Fighting, Colorless. Flip a coin. If heads, your opponent discards the top card from his or her deck. Earthquake is another attack lists 60 damage. The cost is Fighting, Colorless, Colorless. Does 10 damage to each of your Benched Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.) Weakness is Water ×2. Retreat cost is 2. The card text says: When Pokémon-ex has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

I keep a set binder for Nintendo Black Star Promos, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Nintendo Black Star Promos set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Groudon can fill a slot in Generation 3 binder (Hoenn). Themed lists that include this exact card are Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza. I still need this card.
