Beartic 31/98 · Emerging Powers

Emerging Powers is a set in the Black & White series. It was released on August 31, 2011. The printed size is 98, and the checklist is the same length. Beartic is 31/98, in position 31 of 98 on this checklist. Before it is 30 Beartic, and after it is 32 Emolga. The listed rarity is Rare.

Beartic is a Stage 1 Water Pokémon with 130 HP. In the Pokédex this is Beartic (#614), generation 5 (Unova). The card says it evolves from Cubchoo. In this catalog that name is Cubchoo (#613).

Kagemaru Himeno illustrated this card. The same name is on 656 other cards in the catalog.

Beartic (#614) has 10 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 9 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2011 to 2025. The earliest other card is Beartic 30/98 in Emerging Powers (2011). Both list 130 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Rare. Kouki Saitou illustrated that card, and Kagemaru Himeno illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 3, and here it is 2. 7 other cards of Beartic list a different HP.

The attack Icy Wind lists 30 damage. The cost is Water. The Defending Pokémon is now Asleep. Superpower is another attack lists 60+ damage. The cost is Water, Water, Colorless. You may do 20 more damage. If you do, this Pokémon does 20 damage to itself. Weakness is Metal ×2. Retreat cost is 2. The flavor text reads "It freezes its breath to create fangs and claws of ice to fight with. Cold northern areas are its habitat."

I keep a set binder for Emerging Powers, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Emerging Powers set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Beartic can fill a slot in Generation 5 binder (Unova). I still need this card.
