Groudon-EX XY42/211 · XY Black Star Promos

Groudon is Pokédex #383, generation 3 (Hoenn). Groudon-EX is a Basic EX Fighting Pokémon with 180 HP.

Groudon-EX sits at XY42/211 in XY Black Star Promos, position 42 of 216. Before it is XY41 Kyogre-EX, and after it is XY43 Diancie-EX. The set belongs to the XY series. It was released on October 12, 2013. The printed size is 211. This checklist is longer, at 216 cards. The listed rarity is Promo.

The attack Rip Claw lists 30 damage. The cost is Fighting, Colorless. Flip a coin. If heads, discard an Energy attached to your opponent's Active Pokémon. Massive Rend is another attack lists 130 damage. The cost is Fighting, Fighting, Fighting, Colorless. Weakness is Grass ×2. Retreat cost is 4. The card text says: Pokémon-EX rule: When a Pokémon-EX has been Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.

Groudon (#383) has 33 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 22 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2003 to 2026. The earliest other card is Groudon ex 2/40 in Nintendo Black Star Promos (2003). That card is named Groudon ex, while this one is Groudon-EX. That card lists 120 HP, and this one lists 180 HP. Both list the rarity Promo. Kazuo Yazawa illustrated that card, and Eske Yoshinob illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 3, and here it is 4. 29 other cards of Groudon list a different HP.

The illustrator line reads Eske Yoshinob. I count 177 other cards in the catalog with that illustrator.

XY Black Star Promos set binder is where a full XY Black Star Promos set goes. This card fills one slot there. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Groudon can fill a slot in Generation 3 binder (Hoenn). Themed lists that include this exact card are Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza. I still need this card.
