Alolan Raichu SM65/248 · SM Black Star Promos

SM Black Star Promos is a set in the Sun & Moon series. It was released on 3 February 2017. The printed size is 248. This checklist is longer, at 251 cards. Alolan Raichu is SM65/248, in position 66 of 251 on this checklist. Before it is SM64 Silvally, and after it is SM66 Pheromosa-GX. The listed rarity is Promo.

Alolan Raichu is a Stage 1 Lightning Pokémon with 110 HP. In the Pokédex this is Raichu (#026), generation 1 (Kanto). The card says it evolves from Pikachu. In this catalog that name is Pikachu (#025).

5ban Graphics illustrated this card. The same name is on 1,629 other cards in the catalog.

Raichu (#026) has 70 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 52 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 1999 to 2026. The earliest other card is Raichu 14/102 in Base (1999). That card is named Raichu, while this one is Alolan Raichu. That card lists 80 HP, and this one lists 110 HP. The rarity there is Rare Holo, and here it is Promo. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and 5ban Graphics illustrated this one. 65 other cards of Raichu list a different HP.

The attack Quick Attack lists 10+ damage. The cost is Lightning. Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 30 more damage. Electric Surfer is another attack lists 70 damage. The cost is Lightning, Colorless, Colorless. Weakness is Fighting ×2. Resistance is Metal -20. Retreat cost is 1. The flavor text reads "It only evolves to this form in the Alola region. According to researchers, its diet is one of the causes of this change."

I keep a set binder for SM Black Star Promos, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the SM Black Star Promos set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Raichu can fill a slot in Generation 1 binder (Kanto). Themed lists that include this exact card are Pikachu's friends and Alolan forms. I still need this card.
