Xatu 79/236 · Cosmic Eclipse

Cosmic Eclipse is a set in the Sun & Moon series. It was released on November 1, 2019. The printed size is 236. This checklist is longer, at 272 cards. Xatu is 79/236, in position 79 of 272 on this checklist. Before it is 78 Natu, and after it is 80 Ralts. The listed rarity is Rare.

Xatu is a Stage 1 Psychic Pokémon with 80 HP. In the Pokédex this is Xatu (#178), generation 2 (Johto). The card says it evolves from Natu. In this catalog that name is Natu (#177).

Anesaki Dynamic illustrated this card. The same name is on 134 other cards in the catalog.

Xatu (#178) has 19 other cards in the catalog. Those other cards are in 17 sets. The other printings with a release date run from 2000 to 2024. The earliest other card is Xatu 52/111 in Neo Genesis (2000). Both list 80 HP. The rarity there is Uncommon, and here it is Rare. Ken Sugimori illustrated that card, and Anesaki Dynamic illustrated this one. Retreat cost there is 1, and here it is 2. 14 other cards of Xatu list a different HP.

The attack Creepy Wind lists no damage number. The cost is Psychic. Your opponent's Active Pokémon is now Confused. Life Drain is another attack lists no damage number. The cost is Psychic, Colorless. Flip a coin. If heads, put damage counters on your opponent's Active Pokémon until its remaining HP is 10. Weakness is Lightning ×2. Resistance is Fighting -20. Retreat cost is 2. The flavor text reads "It's said that while this Pokémon has the power to predict the future, it's not powerful enough to change the future it sees."

I keep a set binder for Cosmic Eclipse, meant to hold every card of that set. This card is one slot in the Cosmic Eclipse set binder. A generation binder holds one card of each species. Xatu can fill a slot in Generation 2 binder (Johto). I still need this card.
